Río Toche

The first official resurvey of the project took place in Toche, Tolima, from the 23rd of August to the 6th of September 2019, exactly 108 years after Frank Chapman and his colleagues visited the area. Located in the heart of the Central Andes, on the border of the Tolima and Quindío departments in Colombia, the ‘Toche’ resurvey included 4 historical sites visited in 1911 by researchers from the American Museum of Natural History. A team of 8 researchers and 4 local guides carried out standardized surveys in 60 point counts, producing close to 3000 records of 283 species and collected 265 bird specimens that have now been deposited in the ornithology collection at Instituto Alexander von Humboldt.
